![]() One of the master film composers said you should always be able to sing a theme, so I broke those rules many times. It did work well as a theme, and I think it was also recognizable, but much less singable. I think the more complicated you get, the harder it is to have a malleable theme, but what’s interesting is that Korra’s theme is actually pretty complicated, like it’s a pretty complicated melody. At the time, I didn’t know it was gonna be years, but we knew it was gonna be a while and so I was trying to come up with these simple motifs that would be really malleable and work in different contexts- different emotional situations and different narrative situations. Everything was going so fast, you know, and I was really new to composing that way and I had never worked with themes on such a sustained basis where I had to develop them over the course of years.
